2/29: REGION 6 TOURNAMENT
Sabino Portella was named the Region 6 Most Outstanding Wrestler, as the freshman came from the 8th-seed to knock off the #1, #2, & #4 seeds to win the 160-pound Title, and become the Caseys' first Region Champ since Mike Conte in 1983. He moves on to the State Tournament where he will be joined by senior Aidan Meyler-McAuliffe, who finished 2nd at 195. I'll once again ask for help out there as to if anyone knows the last time, or if, RBC has ever had multiple State Qualifiers.

Down Low (106-132): The Caseys have experience returning in the lowerweights, which has often been the case in previous years. Three starters return to the lineup in sophomores Trevor Learn and Ryan Brown, and junior Anthony Donnelly. All three showed improvement as the season went on, and the hope is that with the year under the belts, and the off-season work put in, they will all step up in 2020. Learn, in particular, made great strides last season as he was brand new to the sport. The Caseys also have one of their promising freshmen down here in Christian Ungemah.
In The Middle (138-160): The middleweights get a lift with the return of Daniel Brewton. Brewton, who won 21 bouts last season at Neptune, returns to the program in which he finished 3rd in the Districts for as a freshman. Among those potentially joining Brewton in the middle are two more members of RBC's promising freshman class, Sabino Portella and Devin Mancuso. The Caseys will also have returning starter Dave Thomas in this stretch, who is coming in off a hard working off-season and looking to make big strides.
Up Top (170-Hwt): The strength of the lineup will most likely be here in the upper weight classes. Back for RBC is senior Aidan Meyler McAuiliffe, who won 26 bouts, and became the program's first District Champion since 2014. He is joined by fellow senior Tom DiStefano, who, coming off injuries, managed to put up 19 wins last season. The two of them give the Caseys a strong 1-2 punch up top. Manning the uppwerweights are three individuals from the gridiron in juniors JJ Lodato, and Jake Louro, and sophomore Matt Cody, who are pushing each other hard in the room, and give RBC a physical presence up top. We should also see another one of the Caseys' promising freshman up here in Michael Palmieri.
For years, kids coming into the RBC program really didn't have much experience. They are now beginning to reap the benefits of having the feeder program and have frosh coming in that can make an immediate impact in the lineup. The program has made some big strides the last few years, and have begun having more and more success in the post-season. The goal is for that trend upwards to continue and for the young guys here now to help push the program along even more.
